Design Feasibility for an Owner Occupier
It is not unusual for our designs to be tendered out by our clients to builders. One builder and director at West Coast Residential loved what we managed to achieve for our Clients trapezoid shape block, that he tracked us down from the information available on our architectural drawings and commissioned us to do a design concept for of his own personal blocks also on a trapezoid shape and predominantly western facing block.
The residence boasts on the top floor; 3 generous bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 large terrace balconies that both over look the alfresco and pool area and a large break out space that the family can gather together in; a kids play area and full study.
On the ground floor; we have an additional bedroom with ensuite, 2 water features to tie together the large living, kitchen (with scullery), dining and theatre, all of which over look into the alfresco and swimming pool. The spatial relationship between these areas are linked via bi-fold doors which can be opened to create a large entertainment zone, with the large theatre located pass a passageway for privacy.
Passive and active design principles used in this design were namely planned orientation of rooms and break out shading to combat the harsh western sun, use of water tank storage walls and the incorporation of solar panels.
